Modeling "Getaways"?

My local IPMS club runs a work shop on Saturdays where guys can chat and work on kits. They also provide workspace, lights, and some modeling supplies donated by club members.

I guess if you go to one of the major shows (AMPS, IPMS Nationals) that last for several days, there are normally seminars during the shows and some guys bring their modeling tool boxes with them to work on kits in hotel rooms.

And I agree to a certain extent but I gotta tell ya, if you find the right guys to hang with then its actually a pretty good time.

I meet with a couple of friends in a basement once a month and we bring the latest projects that were working on and its pretty relaxing.

But, its not for everyone.

IPMS Regionals in the USA usually last two days over a weekend.  The IPMS-USA Nationals are four-day events.  Local chapters usually have a one-day annual contest.

Our Chapter has a monthly meeting (first Tuesday) and a monthly Saturday half-day get-together of some sort.  Usually it's a coffee klatch at a member's home.  Last month it was a silent auction of a deceased modelers' estate.  The widow was flabbergasted by how the group helped her dispose of the stash she had been worrying about for over a year, and also by the money she received.  Next Saturday we're doing a group build session at one of the area hobby shops.

It's a great group, fun to be around.

The only thing I'm wondering is ... how do you get your build from one place to the other - and back - without any damage, or losing anything?

even though I absolutely love modelling, I cannot stand more than four hours of it at once... you have to remember, no matter how fat and heavy I may be, I am still a teenager with boiling blood and the lust for action and metal

alumni, it's pretty easy actually.

You have to do just a little preperation and put the model (depending on what stage of the build your in) in a small box with the basics of what you need.

The guys have whatever else we might need.

It can be a pretty portable hobby.

Not the way I drive.  

My getaway is when me and my best mate go off to the UK nats once a year. We stay over and have a good night out and meet up with lots of folks we know. Its a good fun weekend.

Other than that, my personal getaway is my workshop, I can sit there and play with kits to my hearts content and totally escape from life for an hour or so.
