I just hit 40 over the weekend, not including the one I am working on.

My M-1's, carbine, and 1911a1 are over at mom n dads.  I haven't finished my gun cabinet yet.  Those Mosin Nagants are addicting.  Especially since they are fairly cheap for one in excellent condition.  Plus there are so many different variations, markings, factories, and so on.  Check out www.7.62x54r.net .

My stash has grown to over 300 unbuilt models (mostly armor and figures).  I keep them in the basement (the MAN CAVE!), but now where near being neatly organized like Matt or Hwells.

Looks like you have No.1 & No.4 Enfields, K98 Mauser, Russian M-44 carbine and rest of them looks like Moisin Nagants.  Nice WWII collection!  Where are Garand, carbine and m1911?

 Now THAT's a good reason to have a stash. Otherwise, having a big stash (or even a small one like mine) seems to me to be a waste. If I thought rationally about spending the money, then I'd be better off buying tools or paints, or reference material for the kit I'm working on than buying another kit that I won't get to for a long time.

Actually, that's what I've done these past few years.

It's just so much easier to buy a kit than it is to build one, and that goes for everyone! Some of the folks who build the most models around here also seem to have the largest stashes.

But anyway, if you're going to have a large stash, then sending parts of it to troops who will appreciate them is a good use for that stash.

Now that's the question, and I think you're the first person to ask. To be honest, I had to think about it. In the ten years I've been at FSM, I've built constantly, with at least one model on the bench all the time. But in that time, I've only finished one model that wasn't work-related. All the rest have been for FSM or Scale Auto, our sister magazine. But I still go to the hobby shop every week, and clearly I keep buying kits I intend to get to eventually!

I should also note that this picture is a couple of years old. Last fall I culled the collection fairly heavily and sent several boxes of kits to the troops. (Something I'd highly recommend; there are great instructions and addresses at www.ipmsusa.org).

Oh, that's easy: just build a 1:1 scale model of another house…

My built list is about a dozen kits, and my unbuilt stash is about 2 dozen. I build one or two at a time.... sometimes three... but I never put them away unfinished before starting another. I generally try to keep it current size, only buying a new one when another gets completed.

What I'm trying to figure out is where am I going to put all these kits? I'm running out of shelf space!

Awaiting build: 8 total kits...3 started

Built: 964 most 1/35 armor, most US, most WWII, most some variety of Sherman.

Let's see, right now, I have 159 built and 256 unbuilt (some in the US and some here in Japan).

I have three or four kits started and in various stages of tinkering, but there's ever only one on the workbench at any given time. 

There's a big "Modeller's Flea Market" held a few times a year here, so about once a year I take a good hard look at the stash and cull whatever I've lost interest in. Before I moved from Osaka to Gunma for my new job last July, I let go of about 135 kits! The extra space and the extra cash made the move a little bit easier!

Of course, I've bought about 30 kits since the move. And built only one...sheesh!

I have a 100+ stash (might be 110) and that's little league compared to a lot forum members! 

Most of my stash is aircraft, I have got 2 tanks, 1 racing car, an X-Wing and stuff for aircraft dioramas (starter and refuelling trucks, personel, ground equipment etc)

The subject of our collections of unbuilt kits comes up pretty frequently around here. Some folks have stashes that are closer to 1,000 than 500!

Just for fun, I'm posting my stash, which is only 21 kits. I have not bought any new kits for more than two years. I'm determined to build, trade, or trash these kits before I buy another one.

i have 2 stashes, kits i bought in the past month (since i've returned to the hobby) which includes 7 armor kits, and my stash from about 2 years ago when i used to build 1/72nd scale aircraft, about 43 kits, out of which i have two b-24s, and two hellcats started from way back...

293—and mine is quite small, compared to some.

It's not the number in your stash that should concern you. It's the ratio of completed to stashed that should concern you.
