Hobby shops around Jacksonville Fla ?
Posted by badbird356 on Monday, May 7, 2007 2:00 PM

I will be in Jacksonville for a few days in June and was wondering if anyone knows of any good hobby shops in or aruond Jacksonville that I could visit?

Thanks

I lived in Jacksonville FL from 1991 to 1992 and I have never found any hobby shop in that area.  But then again, that was over 15 years ago.  Maybe things have changed.

I was there in Jan.  Stay by the pool and have a nice cool drink.   If it's there, I couldn't find it.

Here's a very good shop I visit when I'm in the States (I'm from Brunswick, Georgia...which has NO hobby shops whatsoever!):

Hobby World
175 Blanding Blvd
Orange Park, FL 32073, USA
(904) 272-7121 (904) 272-6315

 Here's their site:

Apparently they have two locations in the Jacksonville area, but I'm only familiar with the Orange Park location. It's a great shop, with plenty of injection plastic kits of all genres, supplies, reference books, and just about everything else. Definitely one of the best (if not only) shops in the North Florida/South Georgia area.

Hope that helps!

Orange park is not too far from Jacksonville.  BY the way, if you are in love with Naval Aviation or vessels, you are going to the right place.  Mayport and NAS in Blanding BLVD (used to have FA18s in Cecil Field, but closed down in early 90s) are in Jacksonville FL.  Enjoy your visit there.

I've always considered Orange Park to be a part of Jacksonville, actually!

Saw a lot of great air shows at both NAS Jax and Cecil Field over the years.
Even took a one-week cruise on the Saratoga out of Mayport around 1980. That was fun!

Orange Park Mall was one of the largest mall near by Jax so I used to go there a lot and it really is just one county over.  Do you remember USS Forrestal?  Friend of mine was on it for 2 years and I got to see it before it was decommissioned.

Orange Park Mall is indeed huge! My uncle lives near there, so whenever I'm in the States and we visit him, we always hit that mall and that hobby shop on Blanding.

Yes, the Forrestal was in Mayport along with the Saratoga. Never went on it, but saw it plenty of times! Built the ol' Revell kit, too.

Wow, that one is still around, I use to go to that hobby shop back in the mid 80's when I was stationed at Cecil. Great hobby shop from what I remember, use to carry everything but then again, that was 20 years ago. If memory serves me correctly that was down the street from Orange Park mall heading towards Middleburg on the left side of Blanding Blvd. Brings back memories.

Yup, it's still around (as of January 2007, anyway), and still a great shop! And yup, it's still right where you remember it.
