Not sure if you guys have been following this one-- but if any of you fly the IL-2 series, they are currently working on a Real Time Strategy game that looks to be outstanding.

Shermanfreak might even be interested in this one as per the latest development shots...take a look at this link:

How many out here like Falcon 4.0? Out of those that do, raise your hand if you heard about the newest exe patches from BMS. There are new patches coming out weekly now if you are into Falcon 4.0. for those that are into Falcon if you aren't faimilar with all the patches like 108.us, then SP3, then BMS and FF2, then go to http://www.frugalsworld.com and give it a good reading inthe Falcon 4.0 forum. Falcon 4.0 is nothing like it was out of the box. With all the patches, you can now fly any plane in the sim, and most with the correct cockpit and flight model. There are new skins available for just about any plane with all new 3d models that will knock your socks off.

I agree with you PantherLehr. I am playing Beyond Overlord. It is really a cool and realistic simulation of the war in western front. Tanks are realistically modelled. Tigers and Panthers are as tough as they really were and Shermans as ..well as Shermans were. I learn to appreciate how difficult it is for a Sherman to battle it out with them Tigers and Panthers.

I love this game. Much better that Close Combat.

anyone interested in having a look they got a demo out at battlefront.com , also have a look at their forums they have a lot of very knowldegable people there if you dont understand how to play.

I bought Combat Mission:Beyond Overlord a month or so ago and still have yet to play it. I wish I had more time to do so.

I love Battlefield 1942, just an awesome online experience. Another favorite was Return to Castle Wolfenstein Evil [}:)]

The lastest revision of Rowan's old Battle of Britain has been released recently. As a hybrid flight sim/strategy game, it's hard to beat. With access to the original source code and the aid some of the original development team, it's not just a straighforward mod, rather a complete strip-down and overhaul...

There's also a demo available showing off the new changes.

Hi, Jon.
Yeah, in Panzer Front 1, you finish the mission, and that's it! Go try another one. No story or anything.
In Panzer Front bis, it has all that plus a story, plus the maps and scenarios that you can create yourself.
If you have an opportunity to get one or the other, definitely get Panzer Front bis.

Maybe so Mike, but I've still been rather disappointed by the PS 2 games released so far, even here in Japan. I mostly use the console to watch DVDs these days.

Aside from Panzer Front bis (which is a PS1 game), the only other game I play much is Ace Combat 4, which is a really good flight battle sim with a wacky semi-futuristic story. Lots of cool aircraft, and a good flight feel to it.

Once I get a computer that can handle 'em, I'm looking forward to trying some of the PC games you guys are talking about.

Good PS or PS2 games are hard to come by here in Central Florida. I was hoping that the PS2 would come out with either a half way decent flight sim (although I did here a rumor that they would be doing a MoH flight sim next year for PS2) and a decent tank either 1st person or external strategy version. (If they can do Warhammer, Warcraft, Battlezone2210 and any one of those, why not a good Tank shooter? The new PS2 version of MoH is supposed to be a Pacific Theatre scenario and its release is in November.

I envy you J-hulk. Japan has a much better selection of PS & PS2 games than are released here in the US.

Monster, that sounds like the Berlin scenario you're talking about. I think it's artillery that gets you, though.
You're in a Tiger II, with another Tiger II and a Hetzer to command. You have to run a gauntlet of Soviet T-34/85s, Su-100s, and JS-2s to make it to a "safe zone," while dodging the artillery.
That the one?

Demono, I fly Jane's Fighter's Anthology and Jane's F/A-18. In Fighter's Anthology you can fly a LOT of jets from Vietnam era to present. I like to land on the carrier in fog with an ILS approach.

J-hulk, yep, Ive played it. Its been a while since Ive played it I cant remeber the name of it now. But it is called something different. I remeber one map I couldnt get past. It was ina blown up city and I kept getting surround by umpteen tanks and the blown up by a bomber. It was frustrating, fun though. And I agree abut the tanks, they really did look accurate. I hope they make a new version for the PS2. By the way, did anyone ever play Panzer General? Ive played them all, but even as plain as it was, the first one was the funnest.

All these games sound so cool, but my rickety old system can barely handle Half Life, so...

Monster, the two Panzer Front games for PlayStation are real-time battle simulations, with you in a tank of your choice in a map of your choice. You're the commander, and you can have up to 4 tanks to command. You shift out of real-time to map mode, give orders, study recon, etc, then go back to real-time mode and duke it out. You also shift to gunner when you designate a target as commander.
It's PS 1 software, so the graphics are a little pixelly, but the tanks are dead accurate, the physics are very good, and the game play is excellent, in my opinion.

In Panzer Front bis, you can design your own scenarios using the maps and vehicles available.
I've had a blast leading a battalion of Maus (Mice?) against JS-3s at Kursk! And Taking a three-vehicle formation of Japanese Type 90 MBTs against a force of Soviet-built T-80s.

All kinds of nutty possibilities!

Thanks for the update, Recon. I just finished a lan fest this last weekend, and I must say that Desert Combat was one of the favorites. The v.4 really rocks. Fly an A-10, anyone? How about an F-14?

Zoiks![:0]
Look at all those new games!

While not a PC game, has anyone outside of Japan played Panzer Front or Panzer Front bis, on Play Station?
I've been groovin' on those 2 excellent real-time battle sims for the last 4 years or so, and always wondered if it was marketed only here in Japan.
Anybody heard of it?
