Is Alanger a scam?
Posted by Geomodeller on Thursday, May 24, 2007 2:12 AM

Just wondering is anyone has any experience with ordering online from Alanger US? I placed an order with them over 2 months ago and still haven't received anything, despite paying a hefty and non-negotiable airmail postage rate.

My order was confirmed by e-mail and PayPal confirmed my payment, but subsequent enquiries that I made when nothing arrived in the promised 10-14 days met no response. I then lodged a dispute through PayPal which again met no response from Alanger except a brief note asking me to confirm my postal address. I hoped that this was an indication that the kits may be on the way, but still nothing has arrived from them.

Does anyone know if the Alanger website is a scam?

I'm still hopeful that something might turn up eventually but it's looking grim.

Some of the forum members here have had a lot of trouble with them. I think most of their discussions are in the odds&ends part of the site.

I ordered from them last October and the only problem I had was that the paypal account they gave wouldn't receive funds. I sent an email to max@alanger.us and he sorted it all out. I got my order within a week and everything was tip top.

Thanks mate. That gives me some encouragement, at least.

The main reason for my concern is that there has been no contact from them whatsoever despite the 5 or more e-mails that I've sent and the dispute lodged through PayPal, except for a short note asking me to confirm my mailing address. Even when I confirmed my address and asked them to confirm despatch of the package, I've received no indication that anything is happening.

I'm not feeling inspired to use their services again. Even if the goods do eventually arrive, I'm not too keen on doing business with someone who doesn't have the courtesy to drop me a line or two letting me know that all's in order.
