OT: Cubs win NL Central!
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, September 27, 2003 8:09 PM
And they said that it would never happen. Now alot of people say that something or other will happen when the Cubs win the pennant, or when Hell freezes over, or whatever. So, in lieu of recent events, what amazing things are going to happen now?

I firmly believe that shermanfreak will come out of the perverbial closet and admit that he really loves German armor and aircraft. Big Smile [:D] I might be wrong, though.

As a lifelong Astros fan, this causes me great pain. I couldn't believe how badly they choked in the last week. Yuck. I hope the Cubs win it now, but I don't think they will. Zambrano is pretty amazing though.

Blah.

Ah well, there's always next year.

GO CUBBIES! EVER SINCE I CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL AND WANTED TO CATCH GILLIGAN'S ISLAND ONLY TO CATCH CUB GAMES WITH JACK BRICKHOUSE AND MY BELOVED CUBS. AS A NATIVE CHICAGOAN AND A CUB FAN FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER I PRAY THAT THIS IS THE YEAR THAT WE FINALLY DO IT! I MEAN THE LAST TIME THEODORE ROOSEVELT WAS PRESIDENT AND THE GREAT WHITE FLEET WAS ON IT'S WORLD WIDE CRUISE! SORRY HOUSTON FANS, BUT, 95 YEARS IS WAY TO LONG. I'M SURE THAT AS CUB FANS WE CHEER WITH ONE HAND AND CLUTCH OUR CHESTS WITH THE OTHER. I MEAN THE ODDS HAVE GOT TO BE IN OUR FAVOR JUST ONCE, PLEASE GOD! I WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW THE CUBS EVEN AFTER HAVING SWORN THEM OFF ONLY TO RETURN A FEW GAMES LATER. ALAS AS A DISABLED VETERAN I CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO LIVE IN ILLINOIS AN NOW CALL THE BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA HOME. SO, I DON'T GET TO CATCH TO MANY GAMES, BUT, THANK GOR FOR WGN AND OF COURSE THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS! THIS IS THEIR YEAR THIS TIME! JUST 11 MORE WINS AND I FEEL THEY CAN DO IT!

I guess Randy's pretty excited about it, too...

I feel for you, madda, but I've seen the Astros consistently dominate the division the past few years, and I'm glad to see that the Cubs could finally pull one out of the hat. I agree that they have a long, hard road ahead of them against Atlanta, but they've got a pretty good track record against them. Only time will tell.

Go Cubbies!

Well, the thing that really sticks in my craw is that now I hvae to root for the cubs to win too. If my Strohs can't win it, then someone in the nl central has to. Being from Joplin, I'd figure you for a Cardinals man Demon. What gives?

Good point, Dave.
Like many, when I was a kid, I would get home from school and watch the Cubs on WGN. Ryne Sandberg was my hero. In fact, my softball jersey is #23. Once a fan, always a fan. I used to live in St Louis, but never got really into the Cards or Royals. Strange the way that happened.
My prediction for the Series: Chicago and Boston. 6 games, Cubs take it. I just know that I don't want Atlanta or NY to win again...

Hi all,

I'm an Orioles fan, so naturally I wasn't worried about post-season play.

Still, I'd love to see the Cubs and the Red Sox in the World Series.

Regards,

After having our chance in the early 90's, they traded all our players (S Alomar,
R Alomar, Ramirez, Thome, Lofton) and now we rebuild. I hate rebuilding years.

Congrats on the Cubs!

I forgot to tell Springy67 in the other thread not to venture into this one, he's from Down Under. I'm a NY Mutts fan and I survived a long year. Hey the Angels won last year , who would have believed that? I would love to see Boston v.s. Chicago, they are two of the most storied and jinxed ballclubs of all time in any sport. Someone would have to win. Cool [8D]

I wouldn't mind seeing the cubs in the world series at all, as long as their playing the Twins! I think the Twins have a good chance of taking it all this year. hottest team this half of the season, their pitcher Santana is rated #1 in the final season stats I looked at today, and they got the stadium that strikes fear into the hearts of their opponents. I've been in the Metrodome with only 14,000 fans and that was loud. I'd like to see what its like with 54,000.

OK, now who is going to do a diorama of the Cubs in the World Series. Smile [:)] This time it may not be a "What if" or sci fi. It could actually happen. [:0]

When the time is right, and they do win the series, I just may do that, Berny. That, or walpaper my living room with pics of all the "Golden Moments" of this last season. Problem is, if history holds true, either Kerry Wood or Mark Prior will be traded to the Braves, after winning the Cy Young, aka the Maddux Fiasco.

Anybody can have either of them, I want Zambrano to go to my Astros. That guy is amazing. You know, the cubs won their division in 1989 I think it was. They're just about always a tough team, but it's awfully hard to make it to the playoffs in baseball. My guys have never made it to a world series, not ever.

Even though I have been an Atlanta fan ever since everyone at the stadium sat behind homeplate, it would be cool to see the cubs and sox in the series. It's not like atlanta has not had thier chances in the last 12 years, but let's just leave the twins out of it though still alot of bad feelings about that around here.

And in case you haven't heard, the Cubbies took game 1, 4-2 IN ATLANTA. It's starting to look really good for them...
And can you believe, the Twins beat the Yankees! Go Twins!
We all expected San Francisco to win...
