WHY DO WE DO IT

I have bought and built crap kits because they have been the only kits on the market of certain vehicles.  I would prefer to build good kits, but I like to build a lot of modern russian armor and the pickings are rather slim when it comes to quality kits.  It's good to see Trumpeter coming out with good russian kits, but I will still have plenty of Skif, ICM, Alanger and Eastern Express to build in the meantime. To sum up this rambling statement:  "you do what you gotta do to have the kits you want on the built shelf."

Seriously, I think it's the challenge—and a bit of nostalgia. But after Monogram's P-39, I'm really ready for a "shake the box" kit.

Yah, right. Maybe the Tamiya Mosquito—but I've also got two of the Monogram P-61's in progress… and a yen to build that old X-29…

 

I'll agree with Preston, except about the Cabbage Patch kid.  They're cheap, and you will have to develope your skills to make them look good.  I'm not going to take too much of a chance on a $40 to $60 kit.  And how many odd ball kits do the majors put out?

Easily answered, DURR. I think that we buy and build them because we have been pre-conditioned, since childhood, to accept what we are given. It's a Commy Plot and you know it.

Actually, it's a survival instinct born into modelers to keep them in a mode of refining and constantly improving thier skills. Economics also play a secondary, but very crucial, role. We are a generation used to instant gratification. Manufacturers ply this factor with release and delivery dates based on our payroll schedule.
