Forgive me father, for I have sinned . . . .

I have fallen to the lust of the eyes, not once but several times in the past couple of weeks.  Even after the wife commented that I have enough kits in my stash to last years, I couldn't resist the July sales . . .  And I was doing so well, not having made major purchases in months!  They were all too enticing, though, what with their sexy sale prices and all.

From Sprue Bros. , 2 models

From Great Models, 2 more models

then from Squadron, 2 models, along with numerous books

Then I fell even further into the clutches of evil-bay!  a 1/48 Tamiya F2A-2 Buffalo

And my final kick in the face of stash-building chastity, a 1/48 Sierra Models CW-21 Demon on an impulse buy

OK . . .  now that I've got that off my chest, what's your best technique for sneaking new kits into the house undetected by wife, kids, and pets?

Buy a plastic 5 gallon gas can. Apply masking tape approx 4 inches from the bottom and use a #11 blade to make a clean cut through the can on three sides, then remove tape. It should easily hold two small 1:48 models. Use clear packing-tape to seal the three cut sides. Purchase $1 of gasoline (in your vehicle, not on the models) on the day before you intend to mow the yard and make sure that some of it gets on your clothes. Remove 'Gas Can' from vehicle and pretend to struggle to carry it into the garage. Remain calm. Kiss wife, pat dog, typical routine. Casually mention that you intend to mow the lawn and bought gas. Act very tired.

I got your kit into the garage. YOU get it into the houseEvil [}:)].

You do know, I hope, that asking for forgiveness of a sin and then repeating it intentionally doesn't look very good in the eyes of the Lord?

Thad, no doubt new shoes would work!  Though she buys those whether I have a new model or not!

Preston, Love the gas can idea!  That took some creativity.  As for asking for forgiveness while intending to repeat the sin, I agree with you 100%.  My goal with the thread was certainly NOT to trivialize God's forgiveness or our need for it .  Plus, I really don't believe I sinned in buying these kits.  My intention with the fake confession was to poke fun at my (our?) continuing to buy models that we won't build for years probably.  My wife finds it pretty humorous (and reminds me frequently) but in fact, she knows all about my buying habits and is very tolerant of my stash.  We live well below our means, and what we spend on hobbies, including her antique furniture and scrapbooking, comes out of leftover at the end of the month.  I bought a large number of kits in a short time because they were all on sale (except for the CW-21), and I had every intention of buying each of the them eventually anyway, since they all fall into my interest in little known and unusual military aircraft.  If I can get them now at a great price, so much the better!  And I'll have a great stash heading into retirement when I won't have as much disposable income.

 Durr, here's the hit list:

Squadron: Eduard 1/48 FW-190A-8, Czech Models 1/48 Yak-15

Sprue Bros:  Eduard 1/48 Avia B.535, MPM 1/48 Fulmer (last one in stock, I think, sorry if I beat you to it!)

Great Models:  Special Hobby 1/48 Blackburn Skua, 1/72 Trumpeter Wyvern

Still licking my chops to get the Special Hobby Blackburn Roc later this summer, too.

Cheers!

Take the direct approach - bring it into the house immediately after purchase. When the wife questions how much it costs, enthusiastcially tell her it was on sale, and then say: "Do you know how much this NORMALLY costs?"

EVERY woman understands a "sale" price, and no woman can resist a bargain. Cool [8D]
