I found out tonight that Hobby Heaven will be closing it's doors effective August 1st, 2007. For those who don't know, Hobby Heaven has been a mainstay in the automotive modeling hobby for many years. Tom, the proprieter of this great empire always provided kits at a fair price and with a level of satisfaction that couldn't be beat.
While I realize there are probably more armor and military modelers here than automotive modelers, I still think the demise of this company speaks volumes about the state of our hobby today. Whether you build cars, armor, aircraft, or what-have-you, when one of the big companies like this closes it's doors, it's a bad sign for the hobby in general. Many people laugh at me because I buy kits and just stackthem on my shelves, but with all the news from the U.S. Model companies this year, and none of it being good, I really feel like now is the time to get what I'm looking for before it's too late.
This is truly a sad day for our hobby and while I understand where Tom is coming from, I still shudder to think what else is waiting for us as a whole. It's not good, that's for sure.
