Looking for a place to sell a collection of airplane kits
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 6:02 PM

Hi-

I was wondering whether anyone here knows of an online marketplace where people sell plastic aircraft kits. Also, Is there a price guide for these kits?

My Dad has been collecting them for the last 20+ years and has decided that he want's to get rid of his collection.

I've checked Ebay and there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity in this catagory. I understand that I couldn't sell or advertise anything through this forum, but I'm wondering whether any of you guys have a place you go to buy kits from individuals rather than the main suppliers?

Thanks for your help,

Jonathan

If you have some vintage kits, Ebay may not be a bad way of liquidating old kits.  Why not try selling 2 or 3 kits on ebay just to see if you attract buyers or not?

In every copy of FSM there are several ads of companies who but collections of (unbuild) kits.

Somebody mentioned that there is a guide for the value of collectable kits out there called Burn's Guide (PAK-20).  If your Dad has been collecting for many years it might be worth while to track down a copy to know what you are dealing with.  Many other online forums do allow trading and selling of kits.  The main ones are modellingmadness.com, hyperscale.com and aircraftresourcecenter.com.  I think ebay is probably your best bet though unless it is a huge collection and you don't have the time to mail off packages.  You definitely would not get as much for it by selling it as a single collection to a collector/dealer.

You can get the guide here if you hurry. He says they are about gone.
