Ever not know when to quit while you're ahead

Hey gang,

So like the title says, ever not know when to quit?  Like you've been working on a model and think you're done and then decide to do a little extra detail and then screw it up?

For instance, I've been building a 1/48 hase jug.  The contruction was complete, the paint was complete, all that was left to do was decal and weather.  Simple, right?  Wrong.  I picked up some polishing powders from hawkeyeshobbies thinking I could make my NMF look a little more realistic.  So, since I didn't have a buffer wheel for my dremel, I thought I'd try buffing the powder with an old cotton t-shirt.

And this, my friends, is where my sad tale begins.  So I'm buffing the underside, thinking if it doesn't turn out like I'd hoped, it wouldn't be so bad.  So I'm buffing and buffing and then, everyone's favorite sound, SNAP!  Danggit, snapped off one the wheel well covers.  Ok, not terribly bad, it's an easy fix.  But on the up side, the powders were adding a pretty good look to the pretty crappy alclad paintjob.  So I decide to try it on the top side of the wing, as it's a nice open space with nothing to get in the way - or so I thought.  So I'm buffing and buffing and then I hear a funny little CLICK.  At first, I thought I just knocked something on the floor, so I didn't pay it much attention.  So after I'm done polishing, I decide to look to see what I dropped.  I have nice hardwood floors, so anything I drop should be easy to find.  I don't see anything, so I look over at the plane and notice something odd.  Somehow, I managed to snap off the middle machine gun barrel right at the wing - Aaaarrrgghh!  Now, I have to try and drill a nice tiny hole - on center with the other 3 - and hope that I have a sprare resin barrel hanging around.

I guess the moral of the story is, wait until you have the proper tool to do the job.

So, if anybody else has any similar stories, feel free to share.  Misery loves company.
