Questions about a couple tamiyas
Posted by guardsmen22 on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 11:20 PM
Hey guys I just inherited a TON of models over six hundred from my grandfather and the collection included a 1/12 TEXACO Marlboro M23 and a 1/12 Ferrari 312B both made by Tamiya, I was wondering if anyone knew how old these two models are because I know they are older then mid 80s but i would like to know close to how old they are so I can finish cataloguing them and if you could think of what they might be worth any help would be appreciated thanks.

i joined the army in '77 and those 2 were in the tamiya catalogue before that time. i hope that gets you closer to your goal. keep in as well that any model car with a tobacco logo is alot more valuable.

I own a few books on model brands that tell about their history and all the kits they made, but not one about Tamiya.  Schiffer Publications has two on Aurora kits, and another company has books on Revell Monogram, and all the other classic brands you can think of. Those might be handy to you depending on what kits you have...

If you read the side of the M23 box, it says the car first raced in 1973, and the team is in postion to win in 1974.  So I would say the kit goes back to '74.  I think I've seen them on ebay for $50 or more.  They are worth whatever someone will give you for them.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.
