I do the same as swanny, around $20 - $25 an hour. But for some Ive done for free. At first its hard to figure out how much to charge without knowing what time is going to be put in, but after a while youll figure out faster ways to do things and learn to estimate how much time it will take to do something. Then you can just give them a price up front . Most of my customers though are frequent repeats, so I usually have an average that I charge them because of that. And my favorite color is dark purple.

Depends on what it is and who it's for. I built a 1/48 Monogram B-29 with custom decals for the pilots down at the American Legion - no charge. For commercial purposes $20.00 an hour plus materials and that is cheep for talent. Not trying to brag, maybe I should say "skilled labor".

I base what I ask depending on detail level, more detail, more cost.

Building for others..

A guy at work saw my Bradlet sitting on top of my 'puter tower and handed me a 1:144 scale kit of a F-117A, the Revell one.. That not withstanding I got thinking.. This is my first commision build. Now as its for his 7 year old son (he asked if daddy could build it for him, but dads fine motoric skills aren't all that good) I'm not going to ask for anything. Getting a smile on a kids face is just enough.

Now some of you guys not only build for others, but also manage to wangle a bit of pocket money out of it. That gave me an idea.. I do the job of 3 guys at work (engineer, designer, advertiser) but barely even get paid for one. Now how do you guys go about it? What are the going rates? Whats your favorite colour?
