Back in '87 or '88, I was driving truck and had 2 drops in the Denver area. I got to the first one the afternoon before my appointment. Dropped the trailer at the warehouse and went in search of a good buffett for my son and I to attempt to break . When we had finished I had heard of this place in FSM called Colpar Hobbies in Aurora.
We went in and looked around, picked up a couple of kits, one for me and one for my son, and on the way to the counter we passed by their paint assortment. I had never seen a paint assortment like that before. In 3 fairly good sized boxes on the floor were Humbrol tins. Now this was around the time that Monogram had bought Humbrol or something of that nature and they had Monogram tins in the rack. I asked the gentleman what the deal with the boxes were and toldme that they were trying to get rid of them because of the new labeling. It seems people were bypassing the Humbrol tins and picking out the Mongram tins instead. So I asked how much, meaning per tin, he replied if I wanted the whole shot they could probably make me a good deal. I really had to think about it, because I figured I could explain a few tins of paint to the wife but, 3 boxes? I figured, what the heck, what kind of deal? All I had to do was say no thanks. He went in the back and the owner, I guess that's who it was, came out and shook my had and talked a little then he asked, "How about ten bucks for it all?" I thought about it for, oh, about long enough to open my mouth and say, "Sold!"
My son and I got back to the warehouse and started going through the paints and sorting them by color. I had over 300 tins! Now, I had like 50 'Concrete' but, I figured for the price? I did all right.
