I think Dragon/DML most likely not to fall under that Export Tariff because it is from Hong Kong.  Yes, Hong Kong is part of China, however, China is also allowing Hong Kong to run business independently and mainland business regulation does not apply to Hong Kong in many cases.

Last week, Stevens Intl announced a 25% price increase on Trumpeter kits with that excuse... I think this is what you may have heard. Supposedly, it's because of the US dollar going down and because of the Chineese wanting to show a more severe QA. With all the toy recalls, it would seem they want to show that they're taking this issue seriously. Personally, I think it's BS! Just another excuse to increase prices on their part as Dragon has not announced any price increase yet. You be the judge!

I agree, it does seem a tad askew.  I can't find anything in the news either about this.  That's why I'd thought I'd check....

I did find this buried in the news on the Chinese government site:

The government introduced a raft of measures ranging from export rebate cuts to export tariff increases for many exports especially those from the high polluting, and high energy- and resources-consuming sectors.

Perhaps models fit into that area?

That doesn't make sense. China wants to SELL. I can see them putting a tariff on luxury IMPORTS. Or I can see the US putting a tariff on Chinese IMPORTS, but a tariff on exports is really bad for business.

So long folks!

New Chinesee Export Tariff?

I just got an email from my local model club leader that China has imposed a 25% tariff on the export of luxury goods.  Plastic models would fall under that.  Can anyone confirm this or is this old news?

Looks like the great bargain of DML Premium Kits are going to be gone in future releases if it is....
