Folks

I know this topic has been covered in part before, has anyone had any problems ordering from luckymodels.com.  I'm more concerned about using a credit card with an overseas supplier.  Should I be worried or concerned???

 Cheers...

Dave

LuckyModel's payment system is handled via a secure portal to their banking provider. Luckymodel themselves do not retain any of your credit card details. This means that your CC is charged for your order upfront before they actually ship, which may irk some customers, but on the upside, for this reason, if it becomes necessary for them to split a shipment, they do not hit you up for additional postage.

I have ordered from them many times over the past two years and have never had a problem.

EDIT: Be aware that the URL is www.luckymodel.com - if you inadvertantly put an "s" in there as you have in the thread title and in your post above, it will take you to somewhere where you may not want to go Shock [:O] Not "work safe" and your partner (if you have one) may look at you with a raised eyebrow...

Just got a package from them earlier this week.  No problems at all.  Great prices, and they seem to be the only folks who have an abundance of Mr. Surfacer if you use that.  One word of warning:  Be prepared to wait the entire 8-11 days for your package from the date it is shipped.  Mine took 11 days on the nose.

They are reputable and good supplier.  However, I'd be very careful about ordering items that are listed as "Available".

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] If you need anything "soon" Lucky is probably not the way to go. If you're the patient type, and you happen to catch them on one of their sales, you can increase your stash VERY quickly on the cheap.

Also, be sure to play around with what's in your cart to get the best shipping rates - there are breakpoints weights that you'll be paying a certain amount to ship things at, and often you can add more to your order (especially larger ones) but incur no extra shipping.

Should probably check with your credit card issuer what they charge for "currency conversion" as well, as far as I know ALL of them charge some sort of fee for international purchases.

Thanks all, the order is on its way.  I'm in a no hurry situation and all items were in stock.

Glad you took a chance with them. I've ordered with them a few times, only had a problem once which they took care of prompty. Always answered my emails. I second the opinion about the weight, since their fees are based on per Kg. You will notice that their cart tells you the total weight so far, so you can gauge how much 'free' shipping is left. Also, some of the decals & PE stuff have free shipping. If you really are not in a hurry, shipping a bunch of kits via 'surface' mail will knock the price down even more, but prepare to wait 4-8 weeks.

I only order in stock items from them, and I've never waited more than 8-10 days.  Their sales on Tamiya kits makes a big difference on regular prices up here.

I found a great deal on LuckeyModel. Ordered a 1/350 Tamiya Fletcher. Squadron....$42.00 with shipping. SprueBrothers....$38.00 with shipping. LuckeyModel....$22.00 with shipping! Only problem is I added two planes and one was labeled AVAILABLE. Oooops! I ordered them 1/15/08 went online to check my order today and the ORDER IN PROGRESS tag is still on. Not even a ready to ship yet! Next time I will only order IN STOCK items.

Hi Zip,

They do give you the option of either shipping the order complete or splitting the shipment so that what's ready to go can be shipped, with whatever is outstanding to be shipped when it's restocked. If they do split the shipment, there's no additional shipping fee as they don't hold your CC details.

Yeah, I've ended up doing that many times. Just use the "my request" function, tell them to ship anything they've got in stock. They're really good, usually have it packed and gone in a day or two.

Side note - "available" means "available somewhere on the planet" I think...placed an order November 15th, they're still adding things to my 3rd (and hopefully final!) shipment from my big Xmas Sale purchase. Glad I wasn't in a hurry! Wink [;)]

Thanks dupes, Phil_H

Just sent them my request so I'll keep an eye on it.

I recently ordered through Lucky Model for the first time myself. Took about 5 days to get to me after the order was processed and I ended up paying almost $60 less than any other online store and half price compared to the bricks & mortar stores here in Australia.

Their latest items stock is pretty poor, but if you are stuff released 6 months or more ago, then it's the place to shop.
