Profile Information-Is yours complete?
Posted by HawkeyeHobbies on Friday, February 29, 2008 3:45 PM

Whatzup with leaving the information blank? If you fill out the information we'd all be better informed about each other.

Example:

Knowing where someone is from helps us suggest places and products easily accessible to your location if known...like referring a modeler from the UK to his neighborhood Hobby Lobby doesn't help him in the least. Or you may find out that someone you met here in the forum is from someplace you once lived...as it has happened to me. Our community is small and there is a good chance we have or will cross paths.

While at a recent club meeting, through a conversation two of us found out we were stationed at the same base at the same time. I was a young NCO and he was a young officer flying our units A-10s. Small world...both in our hobby and our military careers.

So guys why not fill out the info so we know more about you...are you hiding from someone? Blindfold [X-)]

Mine's mostly filled out. Don't have a website or blog. Spend too much time chatting online as it is, so I don't include those. PM me if you're that interested and I'll let you know my Skype and Yahoo nics!

I do agree that we should all know a bit more. One website I go to shows your real first name and last initial (like AA! Make a Toast [#toast]), and it feels like a more personal forum for it. My nic is my name, and just about everyone knows me as Bill!

Cheers,

Bill

So long folks!

I used to have a more complete bio up, but a while back, site users seemed very hostile towards well known online modelers. So I removed my information.

Yeah, that was a drag, but most of those people either smartened up or left (or were punted). It's difficult to comprehend someone taking offense at any of your posts, though. You are one of the more reasonable posters here on the forum!

So long folks!

I'm sorry, but you're not cleared for that information.

I'd tell ya, but then you'd have to, um... "disappear!"

Of course that's meant to be humorous, and so is the location on my profile. I don't mean to hide from anyone, I just like trying to be funny. Tongue [:P]

There is something to be said for both sides of the coin...  I dont post my military info or experience. When I google my name, I "hit" my publications, academic record, etc... but there on page 3 starts the armorama/aeroscale/modelshipwrights posts.. :) "Googling" is a common work application procedure in many places, and sometimes you want to keep "that" side of your life hidden from "work"/professional life. I also refrain to post info related to the common "security" questions you see in many financial web sites, such as favorite pet, middle name, where born, etc.

General geographic location is useful, as you can exchange info about LHS and shows.

I would cheerfully post more personal information in this age of transparent privacy, but the black helicopters hovering outside my window right now are distracting me, and I have got to find some more scotch tape for my aluminum foil beanie.

I agree with the original post. Lets all fill out our info. The first thing i do when i read a post is to look at the poster's details. Not because i am nosy, but because i have a genuine interest in my fellow modelers.
