we tend to keep a pretty good eye on the HL discounts localy in Baton Rouge, there are two stores and thier model stock is a bit different, but both have considerably been bettered since we have been providing some input. Four years ago I believe if I remember right that one was ordering kits based on skipping down a product list and, not being a modeler, basing it on the names of the kit. Lots of planes in those days and tons of cars. Now its a better mix.
the coupon has changed a bit over time, true there used to be almost constant 40% off coupons, with 25 and thirty being common now, but I noted last winter that we were seeing less 40% and more 20 or 25% pre-Holiday. The kit prices are what looks like full MSRP. We recently had the 30% off sale and quite a few of the kits moved from the store I frequent. One thing I do prefer, is that with the coupon I can get a kit (in one case a Hayabusa motorcycle) to replace a lost gas tank --never did find it! Anyway I was able to rob the tank from the kit and make it to the show that weekend. also they have basic supplies which helps me out. Actually I got some supplies this weekend and the girl at the counter was happy to apply the discount to the paint, even though it was for kits. Soo...at least in my case, it sure helps to have it, even though the prices are not the cheapest. Does this make sense? :-)
