Free Styrene is just a mailbox away.

I've mentioned this before on various forums and in both my blog and newsletter but I think it needs repeating.  This week I have been bombarded with free styrene via my mailbox (snail mail). They come in the form of special discount cards, credit cards (non usabel look a likes) and gift cards (once you've used them up).

Many of these are paper...but many are good quality styrene plastic! They are perfect for scratch building and filling. To remove the print, wipe down with thinner it usually comes right off. Any raised numbers embossed on the card can be discarded by trimming them away, but I find then useful when filling inside hidden areas so I leave them on.

So check your junk mail to see if there is gold styrene in those envelopes.

I've never thought of using them for actual construction. Mine end up in the drawer to be used as putty knives, I just cut them up as needed and use them until they get lost or damaged too much. I'll have to rememebr this when I need some styrene though, thanks for the tip.

ive been doing this for years, old licenses too...

I use them to mount my cleaning cups on for maypaintbrushes so I dont knock them over.

I use those old AOL CD's as paint mixing surfaces. They work great and are FREE

I've been using old busted CD cases for eons, and the little case that holds razor blades (the ones I use are very clear and make great windows).

Dang, I never thought of that.  In know the old cards have been good paint and expoxy mixers.  Come to think if it, the plastic that came in todays stack of junk mail is perfect for the gear doors I need to scratchbuild.

Thanks,

Scott
