paint mixing / storage tip

I recently purged my rack of paint. I found that I had several jars open of the same color of Gunze paint. After combining the partials and cleaning out some that had dried out I ended up with 20 clean empty jars. I used a mix of almost boiling hot water and Windex to soak the paint off/out.

Same here.  Done it for years. Save and reuse empty paint bottles and there is nothing else to buy.

 

I've found that those containers are not suitable for longer storage of paints because they are made of a permeable (sp?) type of plastic which allows the paint's vehicle to evaporate through the plastic. I just save older empty paint jars for mixing purposes. Testors also sell a 6 pack of empty jars for mixing paints.

Sometimes you can get a handful of them from the photo place, they usually just throw them in a bin for recycling.

I found a lot of the black ones, which as DURR pointed out, the lids don't fit as well as the clear ones. I used some teflon tape to seal the top and it seemed to keep the paint from drying out so fast.

With the digital age, those canisters are getting hard to find.

But yeah, if you can get your hands on them, there great.
