Posted by dubix88 on Monday, November 10, 2003 1:20 PM

I heard someone say that in last months issue of FSM, they got a free mirobrush. I didnt. I was wondering if everyone got one and i didnt or if this person is the only one. Any answers are appreciated.

Nope, if you have a subscription, you won't get any freebies(an oversight I hope they will correct some day).

But, they will mail the sample to you if you are a subscriber and you go to the customer servcies page and request it.

Here's my experience: I requested the micro brush set from customer service on the 5th. They confirmed shipment on the 6th. I received it on the 10th.

I got my microbrushes. The last issue hit the newstands in a plastic bag and had the microbrushes enclosed.

Was it those little micro brushes from MICROBRUSH or another type of brush? If it was the micro brushes, they come in a pack of 10 for $1.30 at the local hobby store.

Actually this is a pretty common practice in the magazine world. My Hot Rod and Rod and Custom magazine subscriptions never come with the little extras that are on the news stand, calendars, posters and such. It always bummed me out that us loyal subscribers get gypped on the extras but it makes business sense.

One of the computer magazines I subscribe to has two subscription rates. One for the regular magazine and then a higher one for the regular magazine with the CD packed full of demos and stuff. Now I understand the difference probably wasn't the CD itself, but the extra cost of shipping.

I used to subscribe without the CD option, but would then read the information about what was on the CD and wish I had it. While I could have picked it up on the newsstand with the CD included, I didn't like making the extra trip and/or would forget about it and miss an issue. So needless to say, I payed the extra money to get the magazine delivered with the CD included. Sometimes it's been worth it, other times I could have gone without and saved the extra couple of bucks.

I could care less about free micro brushes. My point is they are there for the consumer to sample. Micro brush i'm sure would not like the idea that one of there distributors are not presenting there product in the manner it was intended. I would also think Fine Scale Modeler may be concerned as well.SoapBox [soapbox]
