Missing Part
Posted by TryintoModel on Monday, November 10, 2003 1:33 PM
I have the Tamiya A6M2 "Zeke" kit. I am missing the cockpit window because I was working on it in a hotel room apparently set it down while working on other parts and forgot it. I know, it sounds and was a stupid move. How much would it cost to get a replacement part? The kit was very inexpensive at less than $12 from Hobby Lobby. Would it even be worth trying to order the part?

Well, you could try ordering it, Tamiya probably has OK customer service(they're supposedly one of the best model companies, but I've never built their kits, so I wouldn't know)...

First of all welcome to FSM

From everything I've heard Tamiya has a very good replacement part service. Contact them through their Tamiya U.S. location.

Ive had a similar problem. I recently crushed my top turret canopy on my Hasegawa B-25. Unfortunatly, there are no vac formed sets out yet. Ive emailed Dragon models twice so far to see about a replacemt (told them it was missing Ashamed [*^_^*]Whistling [:-^] ) They have not yet responded after a month. Any suggestions?

Ive had the same problem with MRC and Academy with parts replacement....email is worthless it seems so I dont even know why they offer that as an option! So I will try calling them tomorrow and see what BS song and dance I get.....as far as Tamiya goes....Dont know about the model parts replacement service I do know Ive never had a problem getting replacements for my RC car....Id assume that they are one in the same as far as the service desk goes....but we all know what assume means!

I had to get a replacement part for my Italeri M36 (I melted the Upper hull with a 100 watt light bulb) and all I did was get on the phone and they sent me a new one no questions asked.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

Trevor - 100 watt bulbs are not a good technique for battle damage. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Hello !
What is the scale of your model ? : If 1/48 scale "zeke" A6M3 still needed , I've got one free in my spare box ..

I'm working an Accurate Miniatures Avenger and it was missing the lowergun canopy and decal sheet.(I think the box may have been opened at the store)
I emailed AM and they sent me out the replacement part and a decal sheet without any questions asked at all...even apologised for the missing pieces.

AM will get alot of business from me now because of the way they treated me.My 2 cents [2c]

kerhuon - yes, it is the 1:48 scale "zeke". Yes, I still need the cockpit window, but I would hate to trouble you for it. Sorry for taking so long to respond, I was working out of town the past couple of days. You can e-mail me at davrukr@yahoo.com

You might try also the "Spare Parts Yard" managed by Jean-Marc Perreault (IPMS Canada)

He may not have it, but then again, he might.

Back when I was building their Beaufighter, I had left the canopy out to dry after dipping it in Future.....came back later and it was gone. I never found it-- the only thing I can gather is that one of our basement mice found it to be perfect for their nest. Anyways-- I called up Tamiya USA and the guy had a damaged kit that was returned and was to be destroyed- so he sent out the canopy part to me for free-- it was to me withinh 4-5 days....not too bad!

the other alternative for those with time on their hands : scratchbuilding ! vac-forming !
i know how you feel though, i almost threw a fit when i dropped the cockpit sub-assembly for my A1-H skyraider, and then rolled over it with my chair. thank goodness i got a half built kit from my friend who was supposed to do a group build with me but then lost interest in the hobby altogether.
