Bob Abson
Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England

Bob worked over a 1/16 scale Heng Long RC model of an Ausf G StuG III, adding schürzen (skirts) to depict a vehicle from the Das Reich division in Russia, 1943. “Vehicles from this division also had the distinction of carrying track sections around the spare wheels on the rear of the vehicle situated either side of a large storage box,” Bob says. “Clutter on the rear of the vehicle came from the spares box. The vehicle is still full RC.” Bob primed with Halford’s gray and followed with a Tamiya mixture of XF-59 desert yellow and XF-60 dark yellow overall. He airbrushed camo with a Tamiya mixture of XF-58 olive green and XF-65 field gray. “The schürzen was similarly painted, but then coated with hairspray and overpainted with Tamiya matte white,” he says. “When dry, the white was removed with warm water and an old toothbrush to show a distressed effect on one panel as if it had been taken from another vehicle.”
