In building Eduard’s 1/32 scale Bf 109E-4, Luc says, “I
chose the machine of Helmut Wick during the Battle of Britain around November
1940.” He added engine wiring and a pitot tube made from a syringe needle. The
antenna cable is his own, “an advantage of having long hair,” he says. Luc preshaded,
then airbrushed with Gunze acrylics. He achieved the mottled pattern by rolling
small pieces of tissue between his fingers and applying the small dots of paint
with a fine point of the rolled-up tissue. He applied only minimal weathering “because
I was rather happy with the way the paint job turned out,” he says, “only a
wash of artist’s oil, some pastel powders, and a few scratches with a silver
and a lead pencil. I sealed everything with a clear coat of matte varnish and
that was it.”
