Mike Lentino
Tempe, Arizona

A “ semi-retired” Vietnam veteran (“raising a 17-year-old daughter is not retirement,” he says), Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71 with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry, AirCavalry Division as a scout door gunner in a Hughes OH-6A “Loach” (for LOH, or Light Observation Helicopter). Here, he models (right to left): an Italeri OH-6A; a Monogram AH-1G; and an Italeri UH-1D. All are 1/72 scale with decals from Fireball. This LOH is marked as *** John, Mike says. “I was crew on that bird several times, and its reputation was that it always made it home. At last count there were 61 bullet holes in it.”
