Destroy the Yamato!

Ken Podolski
North Royalton, Ohio

Three models in three scales provided a forced perspective in a scene Ken calls, "Destroy the Yamato!" Blurry in the foreground at the start of a dive is a 1/72 scale Curtiss SB2C Helldiver that Ken modified by opening the dive flaps, adding Hobbymaster crew, and mounting a PropBlur propeller. The SB2C below is a 1/700 scale Helldiver from Trumpeter. The Yamato is a prepainted 1/2400 scale model from F-Toys. For the water, Ken used extra thick matte medium colored with Model Master Acryl dark sea blue. “This was my first attempt at a diorama,” Ken says. “It may not be perfect, but I learned a lot and it turned out kind of neat.”

Ken, Not perfect? Well maybe, but I think any modeler would be proud to claim this as their 20th diorama, much less their first! Using differant scale models to impart distance is not a rookie idea. Very well done! From a Hoosier neighbor, Bugg,

Ken, I'm amazed, truly. For a first diorama this is stunning, the water effect is great for the scale, I think Bugg's comments are spot on.
