Charles Lipkin

Naperville, Illinois

“I received Smer’s 1/60 scale Drakkar Viking ship as a birthday present,” Charles says. “After considerable research, I added most of the rigging attachment points and used rigging thread, wooden fittings, and sailcloth from Model Shipways.” Charles also scratchbuilt a base and stands from oak and brass tubing. He painted  with custom-mixed shades of tan and brown to replicate decking, masking and airbrushing individual boards and strakes. Careful hand-brushing decorated the filigree and prow. “Each crew figure was uniquely hand-painted, right down to the hair and beard,” Charles says.
