Steve explains: “During the late 1950s, both America and the Soviet Union built Mach 3 intercontinental cruise missiles, Navaho and Burya, respectively. I decided to build a different ship of the same type, selecting Myasishchev design bureau as the ‘builder’ of an alternative to the Buran nuclear cruise missile that never flew. The second stage is a Revell 1/40 scale Nike Hercules second stage; the tail cone is the nose of a Condor 1/72 scale V-2. Horizontal stabilizers come from a Hercules booster, while the vertical stabilizer is a wing from an old F-117. The engines are scramjets from Revell 1/72 scale X-15s with bodies from ergonomically designed ballpoint pens.”
