Motivated by his local modeling club, the Prison City Modelers, Bernard built Trumpeter’s 1/144 scale German Type XXIII U-boat. He filled a picture frame with seawater made from high gloss Envirotex Lite topped with waves of Golden Artist Colors gloss soft gel and Golden Fluid Acrylics titanium white and baking soda for ocean spray and foam. On the boat, he used a hairspray undercoat to be able to selectively lift paint and drew rust lines with a brown Copic sketch pen.
