Frank Locklear, Thomson, Georgia

Frank writes: “This is the original Entex 1/350 scale Titanic kit. I built it for a friend for the 100th anniversary of the sinking. It had been partially built in the 1970s, then sat on a shelf in a garage for the next 30-plus years. I offered to complete it by April 14, 2012. The first thing was to disassemble the kit. I used oven cleaner to remove as much of the old enamel and glue as possible. The plastic was very brittle and many parts had to be repaired or rebuilt. Several corrections were necessary; the main ones were the addition of the center anchor and well at the bow, which I scratchbuilt.” Frank used a photoetched-metal package from Tom’s Modelworks and finished with Testors, Tamiya, and Polly Scale paints as well as some hardware store spray-can colors. Rigging is clear nylon sewing thread; the ship’s name is written in Archer dry transfers.
