“This is the F6F-3 flown by Alex Vraciu with VF-6 aboard the USS Intrepid,” says Allan, who built Trumpeter’s 1/32 scale Hellcat. “The ‘visible’ Pratt & Whitney R2800-10 was a kit in itself.” Allan’s weathering included airbrushed exhaust stains and powder marks, a sludge wash for the panel lines, burnt-metal dry-brushing, and various applications of Doc O’Brien’s Weathering Powders.
