“The P-38 Lightning is one of my favorite planes to build, since my father was an efficiency expert who worked on them at Lockheed,” Joel says. For heavy weathering on his Revell 1/48 scale P-38J, he spray-painted natural-metal parts on the sprue with Testors silver, then rubbed those parts down with flat black acrylic on a damp cloth. “I used the bombs, which looked more menacing than the rockets,” he says.
