After building Revell’s 1/32 scale MiG-29UB, Dean says: “This took about 7 months to build, mainly because of scratchbuilt detail for the consoles and side walls, canopy frame, and the wheel wells.” He corrected the wing angle and assigned NATO PJ Productions Phantom pilots to the plane, giving their helmets decals from a 1/72 scale Soviet bomber. “I spent about 50 percent of the project painting and weathering,” he says. “The real aircraft was so dirty it was a chance to really go into the weathering. I used Tamiya acrylics, a shade I mixed myself that seems close to me, plus Alclad II, Humbrol, Tamiya pigments, and pencils. I left off most of the decals as the real aircraft had no stencils, just insignia. I painted the Russian flag on the tail because the Revell decals were ridiculously thick.”
