Moe Veldhuizen, LaSalle, Ontario, Canada

Moe named his in-flight display after the book A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II, by Adam Makos and Larry Alexander: In December 1943, German fighter pilot and Luftwaffe ace Franz Stigler escorted a crippled B-17, Charlie Brown, to the North Sea and a safe route home; he could have just as easily shot it down. Moe used Revell 1/48 scale kits for the Bf 109 and Flying Fortress, damaging the bomber with drilling, cutting, and thin sheets of aluminum for torn metal. PropBlur propellers and Kits-World decals grace both planes. Moe’s friend Barry Ewen took the photo.
