“Sometimes I go for accuracy of the mind versus realism with the eyes,” Jose says. “I painted my Revell 1/144 scale Type VIIC U-boat the way men on Allied ships of World War II must have viewed it.” Jose gave the sub a base coat of Tamiya dark gray, then painted his seagoing mural with enamels and permanent markers and weathered it with water-based paints. Not confident of his drawing skills, he took more than a year to complete the work.
