“This is a classic model: STP put an aircraft engine in a race car and ran it at the (1967) Indianapolis 500,” writes Don, who acquired a Bandai 1/12 scale kit of the STP-Paxton Turbocar after it had been passed from owner to owner for 30 years. Andy Granatelli’s car, driven by Parnelli Jones, led the race for most of the way when, three laps short of the finish, it coasted to a stop in the pits with a failed transmission bearing. Don painted with Testors spray cans and had to send away to Belgium for replacement decals.
