John writes, “The USS Nathan James is a fictional Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer based on the real-life ships USS Halsey and USS Dewey. Many of the scenes in the TV series ‘The Last Ship’ were filmed aboard those two ships.” John built Trumpeter’s 1/350 scale USS Momsen and armed it with Phalanx CIWS with FLIR and a Mk.38 MOD2 25mm chain gun (with Mk.53 Nulka decoy system), both from Veterans Models. The crew is from a Fujimi set of Imperial Japanese Navy seamen. John painted with Testors Model Master and Vallejo acrylics and weathered with artist’s oils.
