Mike writes: “Inspired by the September 2007 FSM, where wire-bending techniques were described by Aaron Skinner, I decided to tackle the landing-gear undercarriage of the 1/72 scale AMT/Ertl “Space: 1999” Eagle kit. (The kit molding is just a solid plastic box structure over the pads.) I had already used cut sections of wire hangers to create new piping for the rear engines, but, for the landing gear, I made a jig to create identical U-shaped supports from paperclips for all four landing footpads.
I opened up the framework with a motor tool and put detailed inserts behind them.” Mike kept cutting and installed magnets in the detachable forward command module. He also used magnets on the detachable roof of the passenger module to make its removal and replacement less risky than snapping the plastic parts off and on. The markings are decals from Tangents.
