“I had built three Moebius Models 1/25 scale International Lonestars and I wanted something different and over the top,” Adam says. So he invented a storyline to drive the modeling. He says, “Think ‘owner with too much money to spend.’ A company orders a Lonestar but the sale falls through, leaving the dealer stuck. Along comes a CEO who owns a company called Xtreme Autowerke, a custom-car builder. He loves toys, the bigger the better, and he also runs a raceboat team.” To briefly summarize Adam’s candy lime-green modeling medley: kitbashed bullet-style headlights; an Alien hood ornament that was actually a cake decoration; chrome trim painted over with Tamiya black and pearl clear; third axle; Revell Germany headache rack; cell phones, pizza, a stereo system, dog bowls, and more added to the truck interior; custom boat carrier based on two AMT Fruehauf flatbed trailers and lined with diamond-plate-patterned aluminum foil; scratchbuilt workshops at either end of the trailer, the front with observation deck; and a raceboat dramatically adapted from Testors’ Miss Budweiser. Adam also hung an Eduard photoetched-metal Remove Before Flight tag at the nose of the boat.
