Contrary to popular perception, Admiral Lord Nelson was not in dress uniform when he died in the Battle of Trafalgar; it was considered “under dress,” just as depicted on Verlinden’s 120mm Nelson at Trafalgar. David painted it with enamels and artist’s oils.
