The Essex-class USS Hornet (CV/CVA/CVS-12) was laid down as the Kearsarge but renamed in honor of the carrier that launched the Doolittle raid on Tokyo and was sunk later in 1942. Mike’s 1/32 scale Hasegawa F6F Hellcat is marked for Torpedo Group VF-17 aboard Hornet in 1945.
