Having built Academy’s 1/35 scale kit, Jun writes: “Most models shown in Finescale Modeler appear to have been painted with airbrushes. So, for those who don’t possess an airbrush (like me), I made the German steel wall — the Tiger II. I base-coated with AK Interactive acrylic gray, then covered the tracks with generous amounts of Art Prism burnt umber artist’s oils to create a muddy texture on the tracks and lower hull. I brushed and washed the hull with mixtures of AK Interactive acrylics — raw umber, white, burnt sienna — to create a used and battered look. Finally, a wash of white-brown acrylics made the Tiger look as if it had charged through a blizzard. For a finishing touch, I added a fictional horsehead symbol I found on the Internet. After one more wash of brown-white, my completely brush-painted Tiger was ready to hunt some IS-2s.”
