John Kowalski

Inverness, Illinois

John returned from a two-year modeling hiatus to finish Revell’s 1/48 scale P-47N the hard way, covering it with Bare-Metal Foil. He says, “In the past I have tried to replicate natural-aluminum airplanes using Testors Metalizer paint. The result was OK, but it just did not look like the real thing. I turned the natural grain of the foil 90 degrees in certain locations and enhanced the grain by rubbing it with steel wool. Multiple coats of Tamiya smoke reduced the shine.” Next up for John, a 1/48 scale B-29. “That will be a challenge,” he says.
