Wingnut Wings’ 1/32 scale Felixstowe F.2a (late) version was “certainly the largest, most complex, and challenging plastic model I have built in more than 60 years of modeling,” Harold says. It was a gift from his wife, Suzette, who thought he would enjoy the challenge. He painted with Humbrol enamels and used EZ line for rigging, with 410 turnbuckles made from .5mm metal sleeves. Spending 600 hours on the build over seven months produced a prizewinner: It placed first in its category and was judged Best of Show in the Shearwater Aviation Museum Spring Hobby Show in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Harold says, “The photos were taken on the southwest Nova Scotia shoreline near Lunenburg. A friend of mine, who is originally from the city of Felixstowe in the UK, was so convinced by the background that he actually looked for Felixstowe landmarks!”
