Ernie Urtiaga

Oviedo, Florida

Ernie writes: “This is the old Monogram 1/48 scale F-4J, built from the box. The paint is Testors Model Master enamel with a black base underneath, which produces a very realistic, weathered finish. Markings from CAM Decals are for the U.S. Marine Corps VMFA-235 “Death Angels” stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay around 1970. The LAU-10 Zuni pods are from a Hasegawa weapons set. Sidewinders, MER, and Mk.82s are leftovers from the Academy Phantom. Artist’s oils were used for the fluid streaks; the engine nozzles and natural-metal areas were sprayed with different Alclad II metallic shades. The FOD covers were made from sheet styrene.”
