Having seen it for himself at Commemorative Air Force shows in Harlingen, Texas, James portrayed Col. Van Skiles’ daredevil one-wheel pass with the B-17G Texas Raiders. James built Revell’s 1/48 scale Flying Fort and perched the whole model on the port landing gear; PropBlur photo-etch propellers put a realistic spin on the engines. The real stunt was discontinued as too risky.
