Scott Glatstein
Minnetonka, Minnesota
Scott’s small and delicate ICM 1/24 scale 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen measures 4 inches x 2 inches and weighs a scant 12 grams — less than half an ounce! Visually, the Benz Motorwagen, considered the first commercially viable automobile, is all wheels and wood. ICM includes a photo-etched brass wheel kit for the wheels and Scott replaced the molded plastic wood with real, HO-scale dimensional lumber. He carved the steering handle from a toothpick. Scott added a wood battery box under the seat, wires, vinyl drive belt, and simulated hard rubber tires with rubber bands.
