Jeff Josefsberg

Midland, Georgia

Jeff calls this scene “Gort, Klaatu Barada Nikto,” re-creating events from the original The Day the Earth Stood Still film. He used a “very old garage kit of Klaatu's ship” that came with a Gort figure. Since the kit did not provide a Klaatu figure, Jeff used an HO-scale (1/87) train conductor and modified it to look like the character. He built the ship's ramp from sheet styrene using movie stills as guidance. Gort's heat beam is made from brass rod painted dull red. Jeff melted HO-scale items in his toaster oven (to his wife’s displeasure) to replicate the effects of Gort's attacks. The groundwork materials all came from his local hobby shop.
