CH-54....a few reference photos for you

Hi Ikar01 , Thank's for sharing those great pic's of the CH-54 . As it happens I have a Revell 1/72 scale CH-54 skycrane on the bench at the moment ; [along with about two dozen other helicopter and aircraft fighter kits I've started ] . Anyway I built a Skycrane a few years ago , it originally had a hand brush olive drab finish , when I got my first airbrush , I stripped back the paint and airbrushed a new olive drab finish . I also had a go at a rotor fold so she wouldn't take up too much room in the display cabinet . Revell have molded the crew access door for the pod near the rear , your pic shows the side door up near the front ??? . I thought I would share a couple of pics of my build . Kind regards John

Looks good.  How hard was the blade fold to do?

I have a 1/100 kit in my garage now. 

I used to see them fly by our high school when we would be outside for gym.  We had Picatinney Arsenal on the other side of town and would get to see things once in a while.

OH , I'm afraid the rotor blade fold was rather crude and basic to say the least . In fact it was probably my first attempt to "kitbash/scratch-build" anything . Upon closer inspection I remember I damaged the main rotor shaft trying to remove the rotor hub when I set about stripping back the first paint finish . Not having any proper modeling tools at that time I ended up just filing the rotor hub atatchment lugs to accommodate the rotor blades that were facing forward and to the rear . [ Only four of the lugs I filed , the two center ones stay as they are ] I didn't even have a pin vise back then either , so my new rotor shaft was a flat head nail and four small panel pins to help the outer rotors stay in place . I'm sure I could do better now , seeing I have another Revell Skycrane in my stash , I've decided to give the rotor fold another go with this build . Here's a couple more pics . Kind regards john

 Probably beating a dead horse but you all saw the pics I posted a while back of the one being airlifted by a Chinook to the 1st Cav Museum? Not something you see everyday. Also had that photo of it carring the daisey cutter bomb in vietnam which was cool.

 I found a picture from vietnam of a CH-47 I think that had the incredible Hulk as nose art which was cool.

I checked out the link you posted sfcmac , those are certainly amazing pic's of the CH-54 . I've copied some of the pics into my computer . Of interest is the color of the Skycrane , it looks to be FS.34097 [ Marine Green ] ?? . Or is it just the olive drab has badly faded .
