Blackhawk color?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 22, 2003 9:58 AM
What is the closest color match for a UH-60 available in the Model Master Acryl paint line? I'm starting a Blackhawk this weekend and need some advice. It's time to get the MH-60 Gunship in the air and get a real transport on the ground!

Testors makes an army helo green in acrylic. it is very close if not a perfect match to army helo colors inclueding the hawks. However, the mh-60s in TF 160 are black not green. Also, real army helicopters fade easliy and discolor in different ways. They fade to a brown type color. It alos depends on what contractor makes the paint. I have spot painted many hueys, it is rare that the touch up paint is the same from can to can. Some match perfect to the helo, others are darker, lighter, browner or greener. Dave (huey crew chief)

Thanks for the info. I finished up MD-530 a while ago and got pretty good results. I shot it with an olive drab then oversprayed it flat black with the airbrush just enough to tone down the green. IMO it came out pretty darn good for my 2nd helo kit. I've done a MH-60 in a 3 color scheme that I referenced from some Spec. Ops. sites but I want the UH to be the show piece of the dio.

I spray the whole acft with black then fill in between the panel lines with the testors helo green or the poly scale grimmy black (it is also close to the helo green). This leaves the panel lines black and then fades into the dark green. Its a nice scale effect.
